Sustainability
port PRO-MOTION ASD. has always placed enormous attention on the sustainability of its events, to make them increasingly GREEN by following a strategy that aims to integrate with the wonderful scenery that hosts the Lago Maggiore Marathon and its sister Lago Maggiore Half Marathon.
We therefore intend to continue a journey that began in 2008 with the creation of the Half Marathon, followed by the first Marathon in 2011. This commitment to environmental sustainability has been evident from the outset, for example, by avoiding the use of PET bottles at refreshment points in favor of using mains water, and by choosing to provide only one sponge per competitor instead of one at every sponge station along the route.
In collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce. of the VCO With the consultancy of Locom Srl, we have decided to join an INTERREG Italy-Switzerland project that will allow us to certify the Lago Maggiore Marathon and Lago Maggiore Half Marathon through a sustainable management system, thus obtaining ISO 20121 "sustainable events" certification. The certification process includes an evaluation of the economic, social, and environmental impacts of the events:
• ECONOMIC: create direct value for the local entities involved and indirect value for the promotion of the territory
• SOCIAL: promote sport as a lifestyle and a tool for physical and mental well-being
• ENVIRONMENTAL: monitor environmental impacts to reduce negative ones and optimize positive ones
We believe that sport and the environment must necessarily follow the same path in order to create events increasingly in harmony with the environment, educating the conscience of each participant to respect nature, even when playing sports.
